Cast Reactions to Cancellationhttps://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/130636-cast-reactions-to-cancellation/ Outside of Rafe Judkins, Rosamund Pike, Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski and Marcus Rutherford did any of the main cast or crew ever comment on the WOT coming to an end/being cancelled?

I ask, because I never saw anything from Daniel Henney, Zoe Robins, Donal Finn or the rest. In fact, it feels like Daniel Henney and Zoe Robins were completely sidelined with promotion and interviews after season 2.

This is not a baiting topic, I'm genuinely curious.

Casting? Best or Worse?https://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/110646-casting-best-or-worse/ While many new actors are on the scene in this production, How do you feel about the physical portrayals?  Lan?  Moiraine? Perrin?  Etc?

To get the ball rolling, always felt the dynamic of Moiraine and Lan was the very large Warder next to the diminutive, elegant Aes Sedai.  Yet, the power was still obvious between the two (Moiraine).  Lan not big enough Moiraine not small enough (appearance)

Liandrin in post season threehttps://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/131247-liandrin-in-post-season-three/

What do folks think as to whether or not the tv show was going to kill Liandrin before end of the show or would they have kept her story going, especially considering how much they changed her arc from the books.

What are the BIG changes you would have made?https://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/130481-what-are-the-big-changes-you-would-have-made/ Imagine you get to a free hand and unlimited resources and a clean slate to adapt the books to the screen. What are the BIG changes you would have made from the books?

I just finished my reread of Fires of Heaven (and I had forgotten how good this book was, btw). Here is my list off top of my head…

- Book 1 = Season 1 and I would have been super faithful. Including the prologue.

- The Super Girlz just figuring stuff out by intuition makes ZERO sense. At least with Ran he’s the DR so there’s a reason.  I’d have them learn most of their stuff in the tower.

- Elayne sucks. Sorry not sorry. I wouldn’t cut her character. And I’d still have her be “in love” with Rand. But that doesn’t mean Rand has to love her back. This whole “love story” makes sense as teenage infatuation but not actual love, and I’d depict it as such with the expected outcome. In fact, I’d probably make her character even more annoying in the show. Basically she’d be like Sansa, like how book readers would be like “ok, Sansa sucks but she’s as bad in the books. She still sucks but not as bad as the show.”

- Give the Forsaken interesting backstories, make them more dangerous, and don’t reincarnate half of them. Ugh.

- The Elayne and Nynaeve join the circus storyline is tedious and dumb. Cut.

- Bowl of the Winds gone.

- Elayne Andor/Cairhien succession waaaay abbreviated.

- Perrin/Faile captivity story waaay abbreviated. And the Shaido are obliterated after Dumai’s Wells.
- Taim is Demandred. Or at least Demandred is somewhere way less contrived than in the books.

I’m sure I’ll think of more as I get further into the reread, but that’s what I can think of for now.

What would you have started the show with?https://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/129034-what-would-you-have-started-the-show-with/ This actually does hold some interest for me since I am with many people in thinking that the show did not really dig in from the get go.

I like the prologue- but I also like the idea of starting with the foretelling. I'll throw one more in for good measure.

1- the prologue

The prologue of eye of the world is great stuff if somewhat confusing. Embracing the horror and unreal elements of it could have done quite a lot concerning the madness the taint. Just trim it down- keep some of the powerful moments- Ishamael healing Lews and Lews suddenly seeing everything he's wrought and the way Ishamael was nervous to do it for fear of what would happen. Lews Therin gateways out and screams his image fading out into - either the fade watching Rand, or into a one time Game of throne montage where Dragonmount mount spikes up and then map keeps changing and changing until- Two rivers. Where it starts as in the novel

2- the foretelling

Young Moraine and Siuan are walking together and gossiping about the Aiel war which they don't believe will reach them and also mention rumors that Gitara has been 'foretelling' a lot of stuff, some of it very meh. They get there and get schooled about how easily the aiel are moving through the nations and boom we get the foretelling and Gitara keeling over... Intro probably Rand and Tam

3- TV riff

They begin with the reds gentling Owen. And they definitely say his name... Fade into Thom getting off a horse and walking into the Winespring. He's grouchy so when one of the only patrons asks for a story he tells the story of the breaking of the world and all its menace... and then then you could actuality start from Edmond's field pretty well after the credit scene.

If you have one that you like and can see the way it would go throw it in here

Is the Wheel of Time impossible to bring to TV? Is AI our only hope?https://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/129317-is-the-wheel-of-time-impossible-to-bring-to-tv-is-ai-our-only-hope/ Is WoT too sprawling, does it have too many characters, too much internal dialogue to be adapted?

As big of a critic of Rafe’s/Amazon’s adaptation that I am I feel they proved it could be done IMO.  Every time they followed Jordan’s script I felt like it was possible.  I don’t know if that would have achieved an audience necessary for continuation though.

In the cancellation thread the discussion turned to speculation of using AI to bring WoT to video through computer animation.  Would such a thing be soulless?  We have endless ways of spending our entertainment budget, but could such a thing get a new audience?

Please no criticism of Rafazon in this thread as that is well trodden territory.

Why not follow the books more closely?https://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/117898-why-not-follow-the-books-more-closely/ Yes, I understand that it is difficult to translate something from novel format to television and movies.  That being said, if the adaptation is going to deviate significantly from the source material, then it should not be made at all.  If you want to tell your own story fine, tell your own story.  Don't chop a story into a bunch of pieces and then paste them together while using the name to entice an already dedicated fanbase.

The biggest problem is the tone, just doesn’t feel like The Wheel of Timehttps://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/127528-the-biggest-problem-is-the-tone-just-doesn%E2%80%99t-feel-like-the-wheel-of-time/ The he thing that made me really enjoy Peter Jackson’s LOTR was that despite the departures from the books the story was told in the same tone as the novels and so it still felt like LOTR

Same went for Game of Thrones, the books had a darker tone and thus so did the show so it felt like the same world and the same story.

WOT by contrast just does not have the same tone as the books. It feels like they are trying to tell the story of WOT in the tone of GOT and it just feels off, despite some familiar characters and scenes it just doesn’t feel like the same story.

Only appears ninth in the Original productions, and not in top 10 overall

Did the series give you a deeper understanding of the books?https://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/128701-did-the-series-give-you-a-deeper-understanding-of-the-books/ Since the show has been cancelled, this forum will inevitably shrink and go dormant.  Before that happens, I would like to thank everyone who posted because the series, the discussion here. and thinking about the discussion has given me a deeper insight into my feelings of the books (both positively and negatively).  I've read the series 3 times, but it was mostly superficially as an interesting fantasy, adventure series without delving too deeply into the specifics of the books.  The series and the discussion raised many interesting questions that caused me to think much deeper than before.

Did anyone else experience the series the same way?  What insights (both good and bad) did you gain from watching and discussing the series?

Non-Book Reader Review for Season 3 of The Wheel of Timehttps://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/128677-non-book-reader-review-for-season-3-of-the-wheel-of-time/ Halfway through editing this video the news dropped that The Wheel of Time had been cancelled 💔

I made the decision to continue editing with the same mindset I had during filming - elated by an excellent third season and optimistic for a fourth.

Collecting clips for this review reminded me just how much the series has improved, and I am gutted that all the talented people who make the The Wheel of Time haven’t been given a chance to show where that trajectory would have taken it.

The fact that this might be the last non-book reader review for #TheWheelofTime Caitlin and I do makes me very sad, but I hope you enjoy it...

What are they doing to Canon?https://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/118154-what-are-they-doing-to-canon/ I'm halfway through S2Ep3...and I'm disgusted...

This Rafe bloke is destroying books I deeply love.

There is simply no purpose to so many of his/the producers changes.

This is truly "inspired by" or "based on"...in the most loosely applicable sense.

They are literally taking themes from the books and creating their own story...a story that doesn't even remotely follow details and plot lines accurately.

I get that at times Jordan was verbose and that there must be some changes in any adaptation...but the things that are true to the books are occasional homage and by far in the minority.

What do others think???

How different is too different?https://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/111274-how-different-is-too-different/ Are there any changes that would make you stop watching the show?

Just putting this out as a question because I think it's safe to say almost everyone is here because they are fans of the books but we know the show isn't necessarily geared towards book fans. I think its fair to say some books fans have been able to accept the changes made in the show so far, some have not and some are conflicted. I imagine this is will mean that some book fans might not wish to continue watching the show in future if they are unhappy with it.

With this in mind this question is to the book readers who will be coming back for season 2.

Would anything be a hard limit for book fans still watching, as in if the show passed that limit would it make you not wish to continue with it?

For myself it would be if Mat died or turned evil or both. Simply because Mat is my favourite character in the books and while there are many other things I like about WoT I feel like if Mat's story were changed in such a drastic fashion I would feel like the show and myself were just not compatible. I would however wish everyone else still enjoying it well and hope they continued to get enjoyment from it.

Guessing the 8 Forsakenhttps://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/127082-guessing-the-8-forsaken/ So we have 5 confirmed

Ishamael

Lanfear

Moghedien

Sammael

Graendal

Spoiler

6 with the casting of Lord Gaebril

???

???

I think we all agree the figurine with the musical instrument is Asmo leaving only one more.

I don't think we're getting Demandred, I think they're merging him with Sammy especially after the info in spoiler above.

I also don't think we're getting Semirhage as I think she has already been merged with Lanfear. Lanfear in the show is far more cruel. kills indiscriminately and even enjoys it. This is far more in line with Semirhage.

Lanfear in the books rarely killed except during fits of anger as she pretty much thought it was beneath her almost like killing someone with her own hand would acknowledge they were a threat to her or her equal and no one was her equal.

So who does this leave us with?

Mesaana

Aginor

Balthamel

Be'lal

If that one figurine is indeed a 4th female, it's obviously Mesaana or I'm wrong about the Lanfear/Semirhage merge.

Or

That figurine is actually a male in fancy clothes, is Rahvin and they aren't merging Sammael and Demandred.

Thoughts?

Sex in the WoT adaptationhttps://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/127926-sex-in-the-wot-adaptation/ So something about relationships on show popped into my head after watching final episode.  The writing of the show wants a completely judgement free set positive view of sex and sensuality.  We haven't seen any cultural taboos, no male gaze, everyone does whowever they want whenever and however they want.  The occasional dad joke about not having enough holes even feels odd considering how sex seems to be completely a fully positive thing. No pregnancy concerns, no taboo relationships, no venereal disease.  And when it's shown it's very PG 13 and chaste.  Even Lanfear and Rand scenes which should be mind blowingly dirty and spicy just feel kind of like normal married for 20 years sex.

Basically I think they have managed to make sex boring while also wanting to show and imply lots of it.  I will admit that this show is not made for mid fifties straight guys but come on there is just nothing cooking in this kitchen.  Feel free to to disprove me.

Potential fix for the overpowered Moiraine issue:https://dragonmount.com/forums/topic/118767-potential-fix-for-the-overpowered-moiraine-issue/ Prediction: The showrunners will reveal Moiraine already had her angreal. And whatever she is doing can be easily explained. Honestly it would make sense for this version to have the angreal. I hope they address this.

Is it a cop out? I don't know, but for real, they need to explain Moiraine's ability. And bring that storyline from book 13.

They need to establish she IS NOT as strong as the girls (Egwene, Elayne, Aviendha) let alone Nynaeve! They need to make it clear because the audiences are not aware of it at all.
